PARTICIPATING CONTRACTORS

From the following link, you will find the approved contractors who are partnering with the My Safe Florida Home program.  If you have received a grant award under the My Safe Florida Home program and you are making improvements to your home, you must use an approved contractor who is partnering with the My Safe Florida Home program in order to receive your grant funds.

The My Safe Florida Home program does not recommend or endorse any contractors on our participating contractor’s list.

To become an approved contractor with the My Safe Florida Home program, all contractors must be licensed by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) or by a local authority for the work that they are performing through the program.  All approved contractors must also complete or already have completed a four-hour course on residential wind-resistance retrofit improvements.

Upon submitting their applications to partner with the My Safe Florida Home program, all contractors are screened to ensure that they have workers’ compensation insurance coverage.  We further urge all homeowners who choose a contractor from the list of approved contractors to verify that the contractor has current workers’ compensation insurance coverage before entering into a contract.

Here are some helpful tips to follow when hiring a contractor:

1. Get at least three estimates from different contractors for the same job.

2. Make sure that the contractor you choose is licensed by the State of Florida or your county government.  To verify if a contractor is licensed, visit https://www.myfloridalicense.com/licensing/wl11.jsp?SID or call 850-487-1395.

3. Contact the DBPR or local licensing authority to check for complaints.  Ask your contractor for references, and follow up with those references.

4. Read your contract very carefully, including warranty information on any products used to strengthen your home.

5. Make sure that the products used meet code requirements in your area and all appropriate building permits have been pulled.
