When it comes to hurricanes and tropical storms, Floridians have learned first hand that it pays to be prepared. To help you be better prepared, we have information to help you lessen the impact of a major storm or hurricane.  Whenever a tropical storm or hurricane takes aim at our state, Florida's Chief Financial Officer activates a special consumer helpline through which you can seek assistance on any insurance matter. The number is 1-800-22-STORM, or 1-800-227-8676.

This is true whether the disaster is natural, like a hurricane, or manmade, like a terrorist attack. For disaster preparation help, go to http://www.MySafeFlorida.org.

Education is key for reducing children's risks to disasters. Children are one of the most vulnerable groups when disasters occur. If we teach them from the early age about the risks posed by natural hazards, children will have a better chance to save their lives during disasters. The on-line game aims at teaching children how to build safer villages and cities against disasters. Children will learn playing how the location and the construction materials of houses can make a difference when disasters strike and how early warning systems, evacuation plans and education can save lives.  Click here to play.
