Learn more about mitigation
discounts.
If your home has undergone a
wind inspection through the
My Safe Florida Home program
and you are potentially
eligible for insurance
discounts or credits, you
will receive a mitigation
form. This personalized form
will tell your insurance
company how your home may
qualify for insurance
discounts. Please read more.
Update as of November 1,
2007
One of the benefits of
receiving a free wind
inspection through the My
Safe Florida Home program is
identifying the potential
insurance savings available
to you based on the current
structure of your home. Many
insurance companies provide
discounts or credits for
construction features proven
to reduce damage from
hurricanes.
Beginning November 1, 2007,
the wind inspection firms
will provide a completed
Uniform Mitigation
Verification Inspection Form
(OIR-B1-1802) to homeowners
who receive a free wind
inspection through the our
program. The form will be
signed by the inspector who
conducted the inspection.
Homeowners are to forward
these forms to their
insurance carriers.
We encourage you to contact
your insurance agent or
company to find out what
level of discount is
available for certain
construction features, such
as:
-
Hurricane protection on all of
your windows and exterior doors,
such as shutters or impact
resistance windows and garage
doors
-
A hip roof (sloped on all sides
like a pyramid)
-
Roof to wall connections that
are installed with hurricane
clips/straps. Discounts will
vary depending on the type of
connection such as toe nail,
clips, single wraps or double
wraps.
-
Florida Building Code-approved
roof covering. Discounts will
vary depending on the type of
covering such as asphalt, tile
or metal
For Homeowners who were inspected
before November 1, 2007
The Department of Financial Services
was authorized to certify and
provide a Uniform Mitigation
Verification Inspection Form (Form #
1804) to homeowners inspected prior
to November 1, 2007, under an
emergency rule issued by the Office
of Insurance Regulation. This rule
has expired and insurance companies
are no longer required to accept the
forms completed by the Department.
As of June 30, 2009, the My Safe
Florida Home program will not have
the ability to provide Form 1804 –
Uniform Mitigation Inspection
Verification Form. Homeowners who
have not received a mitigation form
will need to contact the inspection
company that performed the original
inspection or have a new inspection
completed. Click

who performed inspections statewide
for the My Safe Florida Home
program.
If you have any questions or
experience problems in accessing
potential discounts or credits,
please contact the Department of
Financial Services' helpline at
