FOR LOW-INCOME HOMEOWNERS

Homeowners who meet the low-income requirements (80 percent of Annual Median Income (AMI or below), and live in a site-built home are eligible to apply. 

Homeowners who live in the counties served by the non-profit organizations below may apply for a free home inspection and assistance to make improvements by contacting the appropriate organization directly.  

Volunteer Broward

Volunteer Broward is the county's clearinghouse for volunteerism.  In addition to providing meaningful volunteer experiences for South Floridians and Broward county nonprofit organizations, Volunteer Broward provides disaster mitigation, preparation, relief and recovery services.

ReBuild Northwest Florida

Rebuild Northwest Florida (REBUILD) was established in response to the unmet needs of citizens in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties as a result of the 2004-2005 Hurricanes. The organization grew from the grass-roots effort of concerned local citizens who very early on realized the magnitude of the recovery efforts and what it would take to restore the community.  Our focus initially was on emergency repair of low income homes. In the summer of 2006 we launched two additionally programs; The Hurricane Damaged Replacement Home Program and our Mitigation Program.

C.R.E.W (Community Rebuilding Ecumenical Workforce)

CREW is a program of the United Way of Lee County.  Newly created in January 2006 for the purpose of repairing, rebuilding and mitigating homes damaged or destroyed by natural disasters.

Miami Beach Community Development Corporation

Founded in 1981 by the Miami Design Preservation League, MBCDC spearheaded the economic revitalization of the Art Deco District, public and private investment on Ocean Drive and Lincoln Road and re-emergence of South Beach as a world-class tourist destination.  The organization now works throughout Miami Beach and the region to celebrate an extraordinary architectural and urban endowment, revitalize distressed neighborhoods, create increased economic opportunity, rehabilitate affordable housing and improve the quality of city life for those who live and work and visit the City.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami has built or rehabilitated 560 homes in Miami-Dade County since 1989.  The organization is one of a handful of developers with a proven track record of successfully providing homeownership opportunities to low income families.

Osceola Council on Aging

The Osceola Council on Aging, Inc. is a 501 (c) 3, non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to providing services to enable independence and self-sufficiency for seniors, disabled adults and disadvantaged families. For 35 years, the Council on Aging has been active in our community, currently offering 29 different programs, 20 of which are intergenerational. In 2005, the Council on Aging provided services to 28,000 unduplicated clients. Healthcare, transportation, housing, nutrition, family self-sufficiency, home repair, in home care, case management/guardianship, congregate programs, volunteer services and special events comprise the myriad of program offered by the Council.

Rebuild Polk After Disaster

Rebuild Polk After Disaster(RPAD) serves low income residents in Polk County Florida. The mission is to help these residents recover from damage sustained from disaster, harden homes, and to be prepared for future disasters. We serve those residents who cannot otherwise qualify for assistance.

St. Lucie INTACT

INTACT, the St. Lucie County Long Term Recovery Organization was established as a result of the 2004 hurricanes.  It is comprised of over 45 agencies and faith-based organizations, as well as representatives for the local and state government offices.  INTACT has been working since the end of 2004 to assist families in their long-term recovery from hurricanes and to assist them in being better prepared for future disasters.

St. Johns Housing Partnership

The SJHP provides repairs to over 225 homes annually, and has a waiting list of over 400 households. The SJHP has the construction staff and experience to use the mitigation funds in a complementary plan with our sub-standard housing rehab efforts. Our intent will be to increase our scope of work to blend the mitigation efforts with the emergency repair work whenever possible. A significant portion of our sub-standard housing efforts is concentrated in low-income neighborhoods within the high wind borne areas in St. Johns County (east of I-95).

Senior Friendship Center

The assigned staff for this project have a combined 87 years of experience in case management, project development and project management. Friendship Volunteer Center has commitments from suppliers and contractors to offer significant discounts. Finally, Friendship Volunteer Center has a commitment from the County Housing Authority, who is working on a direct grant from My Safe Florida Home to partner in all aspects of this project.

Brevard Long Term Recovery Coalition

Brevard LTRC will mitigate the homes of at least 300 families in Brevard County using a licensed contractor to provide up to 20 hours per week of site supervision, volunteer training, supervision of volunteer groups and assistance with the permitting process. They have already provided assistance to 342 Brevard County residents with home repairs, and will use this grant to return to many of these homes and provide additional mitigation protection.

United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties/VIND

United Way is serving as fiscal agent for VIND, a long term recovery organization in Volusia County, Florida. The organization has previous experience in providing disaster relief after the three hurricanes of 2004 and the two major tornados of 2006/2007, and has since expanded its capabilities through the forging of strong collaborative partnerships with local disaster relief agencies. VIND will provide mitigation services to 75 homeowners in Volusia County, at an average cost of $3,000 per home.
